"Finch Family"

I've been creating some new woodcuts for a show opening June 7 at Hevanston Gallery in Evanston, IL. The theme of the show is "Memories of Birds." This is one of the new pieces for the show: "Finch Family" 12"x10" image area, black ink on Japanese Mulberry paper.

Gridley & Lady "Tennis"

Actually, Gridley's favorite toy by far is a tennis ball.
He chews them until he breaks them.

Knitter 3.25.14

Because I never know when people are going to leave, I took a photo with my iPhone. Later, I drew this from the image on my monitor with a Micron permanent fine line marker. Then, I added watercolor.

Gridley & Lady "Clean Sheets"

OK. So we let them on the bed. Actually, we don't sleep as well when Gridley isn't snoring away between us.

Gridley & Lady "Cats"

We do have a cat. Chloe's been with us since Christopher brought her home for college about ten years ago. She's ultra-low maintenance, doesn't eat much, and speaks a foreign language. I do have her blocked from my studio as she likes to sit on my arm as I try to draw or type. She and the dogs seem to have an understanding re: turf. However, Lady likes to lick her and that doesn't go over well.

Gridley & Lady "Therapy"

Ollie is a certified therapy dog and reading buddy at Greeley School, across the street from my house. He's a 9 year old rescue dog from Orphans of the Storm.

Gridley & Lady "Buttermilk"

This really happened.
We found the empty carton on one of the dog beds--still intact.

Gridley & Lady "Winter"

The snow in our yard if over a foot deep and has been for weeks. Going down to -3 F again tonight. The dogs won't stay outside for more that a minute or two. And, it isn't even Valentine's Day yet. Yeesh!

"Watching TV"

This was drawn from life in September 1983. It's my parents watching tv at their house outside of Camden, Maine. The baby chair was used by our four month old son, Christopher. My folks passed on years ago. How nice that I have this rather mundane drawing to help me remember how they were.

Gridley & Lady "Unconditional Love"

I've often wondered where Gridley and Lady are REALLY from. Gridley is allegedly from Diana Engezer's house in St. Louis, MO. Lady was found in a cardboard box with her siblings, all two weeks old, in Columbia, MO. Likely stories. One thing's for sure, they have conquered us with their unconditional love.

Gridley & Lady "Outerwear"

I love all the wacky, new terms for this bizarre weather. Gridley really does hate the frigid temps. Smart dog.

Gridley & Lady "Sled Dogs"

It was -14 degrees this morning. Too cold for sledding. Had to put coats on the dogs for the morning sprint to the backyard. Now, when Gridley sees his coat, he hides.
